About Lisa

Lisa Butler is an established self-taught Mi’kmaq acrylic painter and poet from Newfoundland now living in New Brunswick. She developed an interest in art and writing from a young age and although Lisa drifted from her creativity for many years, in 2016 her passion was reignited. Through difficult life losses she coped with grief by turning to art – she was inpsired to capture her universal emotions with poignant pieces and pairing many of them with moving poems. From wildlife to abstract, Lisa enjoys painting a variety of subjects while her vibrant semi-abstract flower pieces demonstrate her uplifting and joyful style. In addition, she has painted on reclaimed wood such as barrel stave, driftwood and barn board appreciating the upcycling aspects as well as the unique effects the surfaces offer. Some of her accomplishments include: – Two paintings purchased by the Town of Gander under the Art procurement program (2018/2019) – featured in “Sunnyslope” a Western Newfoundland magazine (2021) – One of her paintings is featured on the cover of a Canadian book which raised money for homelessness – Original artwork, reproductions and greeting cards are available in a number of Newfondland retail outlets With sales across Canada and in the USA, Lisa is looking forward to this new chapter of her life in New Brunwick where she moved in September of 2023. In 2021 Lisa made the leap to pursue her dreams full-time so her focus is to continue making and sharing beautiful art and to encourage others to believe in their resiliency through times of change and challenge. Lisa was born in Labrador City but moved to Gander, Newfoundland when she was one year old. She spent much of her childhood in Glenwood (a community near Gander) and today she resides in Moncton.
